Getting StartedRequirements
Accessibility is not only the right thing to do; it's a legal requirement.
Guidelines
Content on the web must follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
This is a list of testable criteria based on 4 key principles:

Procurement
You might consider outsourcing if you don't have resource in your team.
You are responsible for choosing a provider that can deliver accessible results.
You should check that providers:
- Can meet the AA standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- Are aware of The Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018.
You must:
- Include a specific accessibility requirement in any contracts or agreements.
- Ask for the provider to include an accessibility statement (if they are providing a full web based system).
Exemptions
Content may be exempt if it's:
-
Produced by a third-party, and not under our control, and not funded by us.
-
Assessed to be a disproportionate burden.
You might judge that the benefits of making some things accessible would not justify the cost. You must do an assessment and publish a statement on the website. Learn more.
-
A map.
Essential information shown on the map must still be available in an accessible format such as a plain text.
-
Part of a heritage collection.
